Asheville Affordable Micro-Housing on Hilliard Avenue Gets the Green Light

Recently Approved! A new affordable housing option for a busy downtown city workforce. Similar to the “tiny home trend” micro-apartments are popping up in major cities all over the globe, but this one will be a first for the area.

217 Hilliard is an 80-unit micro-apartment project with shared kitchen, laundry, and lounge spaces on each floor. Compact living spaces can be maximized through clever compartments and convertible furniture. The five-story building sits on a 0.42-acre infill site in downtown Asheville. Units will average around 200 square feet each.

“These types of buildings have a fun design quality about them with attractive interior and outdoor amenities that provide plenty of comfort,” said architect Brian Cook. Large bike storage with repair stations will also be housed within the building. Developed by Hilliard Flats, LLC (Eagle Rock Ventures and Mori Blue Holdings.)
