Charlotte intern architect Meredith Nortz had two of her projects receive 2021 AIA Charlotte Merit Awards. Meredith completed both of these designs earlier this year while she was still a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has since graduated with a Master of Architecture degree.
The first awarded design, “Rivalis” (pictured below) is an examination of water management that proposes harnessing purified industrial wastewater for the creation of a public bath connecting the underserved Thomasboro-Hoskins neighborhood to the previously-hidden Stewart Creek.
“Uplift” (pictured below) completed with Daniel Fernandez, is a rendering for a mixed-use complex, centered around a trade school of the future. The design incorporates urban farming, geothermal systems, photovoltaic panels, rainwater catchment, and mass timber construction. Congratulations to Meredith on being recognized for this inspiring and relevant work!
