Cherokee County Family YMCA Opens

As a focal point for fun, family-centered water activities, an outdoor water park was included in the planning for the new Cherokee County Family YMCA. Using a multi-generational design, the park has increased membership by appealing to a broader base, engaged the community in outdoor activities and supported the YMCA’s goal of supporting healthier lifestyles.

The YMCA building program includes a 5,000 SF wellness area with cardio and strength training equipment, flexible group physical activity classrooms, a regulation high school gymnasium, and a teen center, providing classes and programs for all ages and levels of interest. The combined facilities work to provide a place where members can achieve a balanced lifestyle, connect with friends, strengthen families and become engaged in the community.

“Our goal was a building with a warm and friendly atmosphere that would last a long time and require limited maintenance within a tight budget. McMillan Pazdan Smith’s design represents each of these values.”
– Mike Goforth, Cherokee County Family YMCA Executive Director
