Milestone Achieved at Greenville Technical College, Prisma Health Center for Health & Life Sciences

On May 26th, Greenville Technical College celebrated a “topping out” as the last steel beam of the new GTC Prisma Health Center for Health & Life Sciences was placed. The three-story, 125,000 square-foot center, expected to open in fall 2024, is designed to have “learning on display.”

The building will support varying modes of learning and instruction delivery. The design team’s focus for the center’s design is to emphasize the dynamic learning and activities taking place within. Strategically placed glass is a primary feature, offering glimpses into the world of science in action. These visual portals allow observers to witness and appreciate an active learning environment. GTC expects the center to support the rapidly changing workforce needs of the growing region.

We are grateful to the many partners joining with us to create the future of education at the heart of our Barton Campus,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College.

The center also includes dedicated suites for medical imaging, ultrasound, radiological technology, and more. These specialized spaces will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure to support cutting-edge research and practice in these fields.

MPS Architect Jeff Tiddy speaks about designing for “learning on display” at the topping out ceremony.

One notable area will be the Anatomage Lab, which will house virtual dissection tables featuring fully interactive, life-size touch screens. This innovative setup will enable students to explore anatomical structures and engage in virtual dissections, enhancing their understanding of the human body in a dynamic and immersive manner.

The design team also created non-classroom spaces to foster interaction and collaboration among students and faculty. These areas, including conversation rooms, study carrels, and outside seating, encourage engagement and connection outside the classroom. By providing inviting and comfortable spaces, GTC will be able to cultivate an environment where students can socialize, exchange ideas, and forge meaningful connections that could lead to exciting and rewarding careers in health and life sciences.

We are honored to assist Greenville Technical College’s mission to create a state-of-the-art learning environment at the heart of their Barton Campus, by providing students with an ideal center to promote deeper engagement among faculty, staff, students, and the wider community.

In addition to a generous gift from Prisma, who is the college’s number one employer, many donations are funding named spaces within the building.
