Our community studio designed a proposed multifamily development for the corner of Laurens Road and Ackley Road that could provide up to 112 new affordable housing units to serve current Nicholtown residents in Greenville, SC. Located along a bus line and a proposed extension of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, these apartments could provide easy commutes for residents working downtown.
Upon reading the news on Facebook, one Greenville resident commented, “Great job. Greenville so needs this. Hope it comes to pass.”
The building’s contemporary architectural character will complement the eclectic style of the existing Laurens Road corridor while promoting a forward-thinking urban design approach for the future. Additionally, a large public plaza near the corner of Ackley and Laurens Road provides an outdoor gathering space with pedestrian entry to the interior of the site. The plaza is framed on two sides by residential amenity spaces in each building that will activate the public space. The units would target residents earning 60% or less of area median income (AMI).
Our project team includes: NHE, Inc., SCG Development, Jordon Construction Company, and Site Design Concepts.
