400 Meeting Street
Located within the historic district of downtown Charleston, SC, this high-end apartment building is designed with students in mind and located within walking distance of the College of Charleston and the Charleston School of Law.
In response to the urban context of upper Meeting Street, the building’s massing is broken into smaller buildings, creating proportions that are more typical of Charleston. The Meeting Street façade employs brick and cementitious panels to alter the scale of the windows, entries, and other elements in response to the larger scale and proportions of one of Charleston’s gateway streets. Along Nassau Street, the design of the buildings is handled differently so that the scale responds to the much smaller context of the East Side neighborhood. Parking is located away from public view. The project uses a very efficient floor plan and consistent window sizes in order to create a cost-effective solution to apartment living in downtown Charleston.
