Augusta-Richmond County Public Library, Jeff Maxwell Branch
McMillan Pazdan Smith was contracted for the renovation and addition to the Jeff Maxwell Library to help bring new life to an older facility and create an inspiring environment for patrons. The existing library, constructed in 1972 with some mechanical renovations in 1999, underwent a full interior and systems renovation in 2018. The renovation enclosed an existing exterior covered walkway to create a 7,500 SF library.
As a result of the renovated program, the relocated main entrance is visible from the parking lot with an entry vestibule leading directly to the welcome desk. Patrons are greeted with new furnishings and finishes throughout the library space, including enhanced restrooms, and new LED lighting for a more welcoming experience. Staff work areas were redesigned for greater efficiency, and the library gained two group study rooms, a designated teen area, a quiet reading area, and technology areas for children, teens, and adults.
The project completed in August of 2019.
