Bon Secours St. Francis, Hawkins Center, Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Care
Bon Secours St. Francis Health System partnered with Teen Cancer America and First Citizens Bank to launch a new Adolescent and Young Adult oncology unit. Founded by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of The Who, Teen Cancer America partners with hospitals to build teen-friendly environments that foster community and social interaction among patients. With soft furnishings, hangout areas, game rooms, laptops, and musical instruments, teens are able to feel like teens during their hospital stay.
Designed to improve survival rates, which is lower than that of children or adults, a dedicated unit helps teens feel a comfort level they don’t experience in pediatric cancer programs.
