Camperdown Academy
Camperdown Academy is one of nine schools in the country certified as a training and teaching institution for assisting children with dyslexia and other reading related learning disabilities in grades first through eighth. To meet the rising need for instruction and teacher training in this specialized learning environment, Camperdown Academy had been functioning within an outdated and undersized facility since 1991. The new facility reorganized their existing program into a cohesive plan where students, faculty, tutors, and volunteers collaborate in an environment that is conducive to their highly-specialized method of learning. The new facility also provides year-round, focused training for teachers within the community to better serve the needs of dyslexic children throughout the area. Located on an almost 8-acre campus, Camperdown Academy is sited on the Verdae Development, a master-planned urban community in Greenville, SC that includes commercial, residential, and community related uses. The 32,000 SF facility includes classrooms, library, eating and gathering areas, numerous individual tutor rooms, and a full-size gymnasium that integrates with a music, visual art, and drama space to create an auditorium use.
