Denmark Technical College, Student Activity Center

For their Student Life renovation project, Denmark Technical College hired McMillan Pazdan Smith to provide pre-design services, including programming and conceptual design, for an existing canteen space in the Student Activity Center. The college’s renovation of an old, existing canteen was needed to create an inviting and engaging space on campus for both resident and commuter students. The school additionally wanted easy access to the internet and casual learning areas for students to collaborate and socialize.

Working closely with the college, our design team scheduled and conducted a collaborative programming meeting with key staff and facility users to develop a scope of renovations for the canteen, including needs and expectations. The outcome was a goal to renovate the 3,000 SF canteen into a state-of-the-art student internet café that includes food service, an active lounge area for eating and congregating, informal study and collaboration areas, an internet lounge, and a multipurpose office space. Facility improvements include new lighting, finishes, seating, upgrades to the existing ceiling system, and HVAC review and modification.

Construction completed in January 2017.
