Dr. T.K. Gregg Community Center

A wide range of stakeholders, including the City of Spartanburg, worked closely with McMillan Pazdan Smith and several national planning partners to draft a conceptual master plan for the redevelopment of Spartanburg’s Northside neighborhood. The “Northside Initiative” aims to transform nearly 400 acres of underutilized and declining properties into a completely revitalized mixed-income, mixed-use neighborhood attractive to families and businesses located close to downtown Spartanburg.

As one of the first major implementations of this master plan, the City of Spartanburg chose to continue working with our team on the design of a new community center with an emphasis on early childhood learning and flexible programming.

The new center was designed to host a wide range of community events, including after-school programs, computer courses, financial literacy courses, and general meeting space. Some of the primary recreational amenities for the new center include new lap and recreation pools, a large fitness room, a gymnasium, and several flexible meeting and program spaces. The new Dr. T.K. Gregg Community Center opened in the Summer of 2020.
