Edgewood Middle and Ninety Six High School, Greenwood School District 52

Combining the needs of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders with ninth through twelfth graders into one building, the 185,000 SF facility provided tremendous cost savings for a rural community that desired a progressive, technologically advanced educational environment. Using a CM-at-Risk project delivery method, the construction manager, client, and design team worked together from project initiation to create shared spaces for art, chorus, life skills, kitchen, health, and industrial technology programs. Both schools have their own cafeteria, gymnasium, media center, band program, academic, and ancillary spaces.

The one-story brick and block building focuses on the most functional use of space and materials to save cost, including pre-engineered buildings for the gymnasiums. Designed with separate vehicular and bus routes for each school help to segregate younger students from the high school students. Our team also designed a plaza reminiscent of a battle site in honor of the community’s historically significant past.
