Continuing the corporate aesthetic that McMillan Pazdan Smith had previously developed in their Greenville, SC and Charlotte, NC offices, Elliott Davis sought to update their downtown Charleston office with unique design elements that fit the city. The gut and rehabilitation project was phased across the three existing spaces to avoid disrupting operations during tax season while growing the overall footprint from 12,000 to over 20,000 SF.
Security and access control were two of the most critical factors to the design, challenging the team to provide an open environment with substantial daylighting and transparency while still following established regulations for access to sensitive information. Ultimately, by removing walls, adding significant glass, and shifting offices, the design team was able to relocate communal spaces in the most desirable corners of the office, sharing the available daylighting with the highest number of employees. Soft seated booths adjacent to the break room provide employees quick collaboration and breakout space with access to the appropriate technology, as well as offering hoteling work space for visiting employees or guests.
Complete with a break room, board room, reception area, three conference rooms, mail room, and training room, the upfit renovation was completed in October 2018 and houses 50 Elliott Davis employees.
