FR8 Yard
A historic vacant lot in downtown Spartanburg, SC was transformed by McMillan Pazdan Smith into a vibrant biergarten. The project team’s vision for the site was to create a social hub in the city’s developing central business district that incorporates ample outdoor seating, delicious local cuisine, and a venue for live music. The property comprises one-third of an acre and sits adjacent to the highly praised Sparkle City Mini Putt Putt course, also designed by McMillan Pazdan Smith.
Designed as an open-air restaurant and community gathering spot, the FR8 YARD uses a cluster of stacked shipping containers to create space for the full commercial kitchen, bar, and restroom areas. The large projection system, pole-mounted televisions and stage allow guests to enjoy a variety of entertainment, from sports to movie nights or concerts. Diverse types of seating, including tables with benches, wooden drinking rails, and rooftop seating, encourage an energetic atmosphere around recreation options like a small dog park, ping pong tables and a bocce court.
