Hubbell Lighting Headquarters + Lighting Solutions Center

Awarded:

  • Carolinas Association of General Contractors, Best Building Project in SC & NC Pinnacle Award, 2007
  • Building Week / Architectural Record, Citation Award, 2007

Certified: LEED Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council

Hubbell Lighting, a nationally recognized manufacturer of interior and exterior lighting products, commissioned McMillan Pazdan Smith with the planning and design of their corporate headquarters, showroom, and testing facility that would consolidate multiple lighting divisions currently located across the country. It was critical for Hubbell to clearly demonstrate its commitment to sustainable design by seeking LEED Certification.

None of the 185,000 SF of space was taken for granted, with every space optimized for efficiency. The design team implemented the latest in daylight harvesting technology to reduce the need for artificial light. All building materials were selected for their durability and life-cycle cost benefits.

Nearly ten years after completion of the original building, Hubbell called our firm to lead the renovation and rebranding effort for their 6,000 SF primary customer training and visitor center, the Lighting Solutions Center, located in the heart of the building’s public-facing area on the ground floor. The entry rotunda is the building’s signature architectural element, marking the Lighting Solutions Center entrance as well as housing a third floor training facility and a fourth floor board room. The Lighting Solutions Center was designed in coordination with a nationally-known exhibit designer and is a highly flexible space, allowing reconfiguration to address the most current industry challenges. The headquarters building was completed in 2006, and the Lighting Solutions Center completed in January of 2017.
