Kempton of Charleston
Liberty Healthcare Group in partnership with Hamilton Development commissioned McMillan Pazdan Smith to design the Kempton. Located on the Charleston peninsula, this new luxury assisted living (AL) and memory care (MC) retirement community will be the first in the downtown area. With its prime location at the intersection of Septima Clark Parkway and Spring Street, the 86,768 SF community will have 93 total units with 30 AL studios, 16 AL one-bedroom apartments, 6 AL two-bedroom apartments, 33 MC studios, and 8 MC companion apartments. With most senior living projects, the various neighborhoods are spread out horizontally. Kempton is uniquely designed to reflect its urban setting with a vertical program where most of the amenities are on the ground floor, AL is housed on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and MC is on the top two floors.
The community draws design inspiration from the local, amenity-rich culture and renowned, fine dining. All residents can enjoy a spa, hair and nail salon, fitness center, neighborhood-specific outdoor patios, and theater.
Residents of the community enjoy proximity to the history and culture of Charleston while also having easy access to medical care with the Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) main campus less than a mile away. Additionally, Kempton enhances the pedestrian-friendly atmosphere with a pocket park given over to public realm.
