Laurens County Essential Services
Based on the 2010 Master Plan, our project team identified a critical need for a new Emergency Department and Women’s Life Center. The new 17,900 SF Emergency Department replaced the existing 25-year old, 6,700 SF building. The new Department has 19 private rooms and includes specialized areas for trauma treatment, pediatric resuscitation, dedicated decontamination, gynecological, and sexual trauma, cardiac treatment and behavioral health. The team designed the space so that caregivers have maximum visibility of all treatment spaces. The department operates using a ‘straight back’ triage and registration process to minimize patient wait times.
Located above the ED on the second floor, the 20,000 SF Women’s Life Center is designed to provide a warm, supportive experience for new families with five spacious labor, delivery, and recovery birthing suites adjacent to 10 well-equipped suites for postpartum care and other ob-gyn needs. Postpartum rooms are conveniently located adjacent to the new Birthing Center. There are two additional triage and treatment rooms in the same area and a special c-section/gyn surgical suite. The new 12-bassinet nursery is centrally located to all labor, delivery, and recovery suites. In addition, the team designed an overnight room for families with newborns who require additional care and training.
