McMillan Pazdan Smith was commissioned as the Architect of Record for this new development for the Asheville Housing Authority through project owner / developer, Mountain Housing Opportunities. Our firm teamed with David Baker Architects to provide master planning and schematic design. The existing public housing neighborhood was re-envisioned as a mixed income community with a first phase of 200 units, approximately 150,000 SF, and a combination of multi-story apartment buildings, walk ups, and flats organized around courtyards and community green spaces. Future development of this neighborhood will include an additional 100+ units with retail and parking structures.
