Palmetto Bank

The Palmetto Bank, the fifth largest independently owned commercial bank in SC, chose McMillan Pazdan Smith to help senior management with a transition of the corporate headquarters to Greenville with a new four-story, 45,000 SF replacement office building in downtown.

Significant buildings including a historic church, the county courthouse, and a proposed federal courthouse surround the gateway site into the city. Our designers recognized an opportunity to blend the new building with surrounding structures utilizing a modern interpretation of a classic American bank design. The new facility required demolition of an existing building and relocation of employees to a temporary office nearby. Natural materials, a two-story entry, and historically inspired details reinforce the bank’s image of long-standing success. An arbor covered roof terrace serves as an informal gathering space and affords views to the plaza below and city beyond. A landscaped plaza screens passing traffic from parking, and site improvements such as wide, tree-lined sidewalks encourage pedestrian use
