Raumedic AG, Clean Room Injection Molding
When the German-based firm Raumedic chose a site in Western North Carolina to expand their manufacturing and distribution of medical grade tubing and catheter assemblies, McMillan Pazdan Smith was chosen to help deliver the first phase of the design-build project.
The facility is a 63,000 SF steel structure enveloped with insulated metal panels and is expandable up to 130,000 SF total. Phase 1 was primarily focused around a 10,100 SF ISO 7 clean room with 16 injection molding machines ranging in size from 45 tons up to 300 tons. Spanning part of this clean room is a 5-ton bridge crane used for removing and replacing the molds within each machine. An elevated viewing area is accessed off of the main lobby for visitors to observe the molding bay without having to suit up in cleanroom gear. Across the front of the building is a 9,000 SF office area with second floor expansion that will total 18,000 SF.
