Reidville Elementary School, Spartanburg School District 5
This new 87,500 SF school for kindergarten through fourth grade was designed as a prototype for Spartanburg County School District 5, saving time and money for the growing district. The design provides separate wings for each grade with centralized core spaces in a very compact floor plan. Wings are expandable and core areas can be opened for community use while the remainder remains closed.
The exterior design is distinct from its sister district schools, with a curvilinear front façade, vaulted main entrance ceiling, and brick architectural detailing. The cafetorium, media center, and gymnasium are distinctive group spaces that repeat the vaulted ceiling element and provide cheerful, open, and well-lit spaces, appealing to an elementary age group. Cost-saving geothermal wells provide heating and cooling.
