Renewable Water Resources (ReWa)
Awarded: AIA South Carolina, Merit Award, 2011
Certified: LEED Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council
The old Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) building required demolition to make way for the construction of a new, two-story 27,700 SF building on the existing site. Tasked with emulating the modern, scientific processes of ReWa’s water treatment processes while also engaging and respecting the existing pastoral riverside site, the design team created a building to house corporate office functions and community and educational events.
Exposed structural steel framing, floor and roof decking, HVAC, and other utilities reflect the efficiency of ReWa’s Treatment Process while creating a showplace for their commitment to the community and sustainable development. The building’s energy system uses daylighting to minimize consumption, as well as a fourpipe HVAC system which results in energy efficiency 10% percent better than ASHRAE 90.1 (2004 standards). A unique site irrigation system engineered by ReWa also uses the effluent water byproduct produced by a ReWa treatment plant located nearby.
The first floor includes executive, human resources, customer service, finance, and purchasing departments. A two-story glass atrium houses the process gallery, which leads to an exterior patio overlooking the scenic Reedy River. The board/multi-purpose room expands into the gallery for larger gatherings and has a refreshment area for catered events. The second floor features the engineering and pretreatment departments, along with training/expansion space, seven conference rooms, and an employee break room.
