SEW-Eurodrive Maxolution Showroom

In conjunction with the design of SEW-Eurodrive’s Smart Assembly Facility, McMillan Pazdan Smith was also hired to design a new SEW showroom. The building is located adjacent to the smart assembly facility and both buildings are connected by an outdoor plaza. This is our seventh project with SEW and will complete their East Campus expansion.

Maxolution serves as a showroom introducing emerging technologies (i.e., digitally networked production lines) to SEW’s customers. An open and flexible display area which could be programmed for various functions takes up most of the 22,500 SF building. A smaller portion of the building includes office and meeting spaces. MPS worked with the client to develop a design that aligned with their specific vision. Similar to a pavilion at an exhibition, the free-standing structure creates separation from production and provides a bigger impact on site. Upon entering the building, visitors view big screen walls at the main entrance to provide a focal point but also to shade and secure the interior. Aluminum louvers attached at a 45-degree angle figuratively represent the fins on gear motors, but at the same time are meant to imply dynamic movement and motion — characteristics that SEW stands for.

The pre-cast concrete structure was sandblasted with textured accents to again create a connection to adjacent SEW buildings. Similar to the rest of the campus, the exterior also features wood accents, exposed roof structures, and windows and skylights to expose natural light.
