Spartanburg Methodist College, Ellis Hall
Certified: LEED by the U.S. Green Building Council
Spartanburg Methodist College is the only independent residential two-year college in SC. Established in 1911 as a cooperative education program, the college now has a strong liberal arts-based curriculum preparing students to transfer to four-year universities.
After completing a masterplan study for the college, it was determined that a new multi-discipline academic building was needed to relieve some of the stress other buildings on campus were feeling due to an increasing student population.
The two-story academic building is 45,000 SF and contains new classrooms, an art studio, chorus room, and acting studio, all equipped with the latest teaching aid technologies. Faculty office suites are located inside the building. The new 240 fixed-seat lecture hall serves as a performance space for recitals, film series lectures, and student productions. The lecture hall has supporting shop space, dressing rooms, and a green room.
