Spartanburg Regional Healthcare, Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health
The design for the new Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health creates a serene, soothing, and still environment where a streamlined process reduces the time between a suspect screening result and a recommended course of action. By creating an environment for multi-disciplinary case management where radiologists, oncologists, and pathologists can meet together to interpret results and map out a plan, the patient’s desire and ability to act is expedited. To create this unique and multi-faceted environment, McMillan Pazdan Smith’s Healthcare Studio designed public spaces infused with daylight and views to exterior gardens, a private diagnostic waiting area with an indoor garden, and spaces for education and learning activities. The interior features natural stone and reclaimed mill timbers, spa treatment areas, a dramatic water feature, and is adorned throughout with exquisite art. Accommodating cutting edge, digital instrumentation including mammography, ultrasound, densitometry, stereotactic FNA, and a 3Tesla MRI, the 5,200 SF of renovated space, along with the 17,700 SF of new construction, emphasizes the patient experience and well-being.
