St. Paul’s Anglican Church
St. Paul’s Anglican church is located on Camperdown Street in downtown Greenville, SC. The client’s goal was to build a new church and renovate their existing church to house youth group functions and other events. We provided programming, campus planning, and design services for a new church, parish hall, church offices, nursery and toddler area, Sunday school classrooms, and a potential day care center. The main level houses 12,750 SF and the lower level includes 12,250 SF.
The steep site provided an opportunity to design a two-story structure with a featured tower entry into the Church Narthex from Camperdown, and a lower-level entry into the parish hall from the parking lot. The two floors are connected by a monumental stair. It was also important to provide connection to the existing church. This was accomplished by designing a connecting courtyard and a bridge to span the courtyard for access to the upper floor of the existing church.
Exterior design features include gabled entryways, rose windows, large windows into the sanctuary, a tall three-tiered steeple, and white painted brick. The church seats 650 people and includes a mezzanine for overflow.
