Upward Star Center
The 120,000 SF sports complex is part of a 100-acre site master plan that provides soccer fields, baseball fields, six NCAA basketball courts, twelve volleyball courts, a weight room, baseball training room, locker room, and team meeting space. In addition, the facility houses a retail shop, café, players’ lounge, and office and classroom space for athletic and community use. Competition venues for basketball and volleyball will host local and regional tournaments. A public concourse connects the gyms with upper and lower level spectator areas, allowing for future gym space.
The Design-Build team used Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology and teleconferencing so all participants could better understand the project and were able to provide immediate input, resulting in a favorable price and construction schedule.
Another feature, The Sports Medicine Institute, provides therapy and clinical care space for examinations, procedures, and imaging services.
The new facility was completed on schedule in the Fall of 2014.
