Western Carolina University, Noble Hall
As part of a public private partnership with Western Carolina University (WCU), led by Ambling Development, the design team of McMillan Pazdan Smith and Hanbury created a mixed-use residential building in the heart of the WCU campus. The former building, destroyed by fire, was a cherished landmark for students and played a critical role in fostering community for the student body. This new building is situated on a 4-acre site and provides 420 beds of upperclassmen student housing on the upper 4 floors. The ground level provides 12,000 SF of dining and retail spaces, including a licensed Chili’s Bar & Grill. These mixed-use spaces are meant to be specifically tailored to student engagement as a campus amenity. The site concept creates a new town-like edge to the campus and provides generous plaza spaces at the east and west ends of the building for outdoor dining and gathering.
Noble Hall opened on time for the Fall 2016 semester.
