The Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium is a classic basketball venue located on the Wofford College campus. Combining the amenities of state-of-the-art arenas with the traditional feel and details of basketball’s cathedrals like the Palestra or Hinkle Fieldhouse, the new stadium is a monument to the history and tradition of the game while also providing modern amenities and team spaces.
The 123,000 SF stadium includes a 3,400-seat basketball arena and a 500-seat volleyball competition venue. The facility replaces Benjamin Johnson Arena and serves as the home for women’s basketball, men’s basketball, and volleyball. The stadium also offers additional seating capacity for non-athletics functions, such as commencement and concerts, allowing 4,500 guests. Entry to the concourse level is through a two-story lobby flanked on either side by large staircases and the stadium’s signature element, an escalator leading under a masonry arcade.
The indoor tailgating experience and ease of communication between suites creates a sense of community and fellowship. The project was completed in September 2017 and was ranked #9 by The Post and Courier in the “Top 25 Sports Venues in South Carolina” in July 2018.
